With child support, paternity and divorce cases do not differ regarding the law except for one thing. Indiana law allows for support in a paternity case to go back to birth or date of filing a petition and the choice of where to stop is left to the judge's discretion.
Sometimes paternity cases come to the court many years after the child's birth. Nothing says that the judge cannot cannot run the child support back to that date but there are good arguments for not doing so. I recommend getting a lawyer for any paternity case.
