Child Advocates

I read Taking Down Words for the politics and amusement. I did not notice the link to this site till this evening. It is not political and it is not amusing, but a rather important site to check out. It describes itself here:

As the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate)/GAL (Guardian Ad Litem), Child Advocates is appointed by the courts in Marion County (Indianapolis) to represent the best interests of abused and neglected children. Volunteers assist in investigating each child's case to make sure that those children are not lost in the system, that their needs are met during the course of their cases and that a safe, permanent home is found as soon as possible. Over 200 community volunteers help ensure that the children we fight to protect are not returned to the very situations where the mistreatment occurred.
I know a few years ago Madison County had a shortage of CASA workers. I tried getting a GAL appointed to a case last year and the judge would not hear of it. I suspect we have a shortage of GAL's also.
