Paternity testing

Indiana has statutes dealing with blood or genetic testing. See Indiana Code 31-14-6.

Things to remember:

  1. The person wanting the testing must file a motion with the court.
  2. The standard rule for tests is that the person making the motion must pay for the costs.
  3. The exception to number 2 is when the State of Indiana represents the opposing party - if the party lacks the funds, then the State pays the costs upfront with the moving party stuck with the bill if the test indicates the moving party is the father. (See IC 31-14-6-4.)
  4. The court qualifies the testing facility.
